Using data from this study, they are currently working on a manuscript that examines the husband’s role during childbirth from the male perspective. In addition, they are working on a nationally representative cross-sectional study that examines the association between household decision-making and the use of maternal health services in Bangladesh.
Under Review Story, William T., Sarah A. Burgard, Jody R. Lori, Fahmida Taleb, Nabeel Ashraf Ali, and D.M. Emdadul Hoque. “Decisions about Delivery Care in Rural Bangladesh: The Influence of Husbands’ Provision of Social Support and Perception of Social Norms.”
Research interests:
Will’s research is driven by his passion to better understand the determinants of health service utilization among women and children in developing countries by examining underlying social constructs that influence the decision to seek care. Specifically, he is using both qualitative and quantitative methods to examine the association between household- and village-level effects (e.g. decision-making, collective efficacy, social capital) and the utilization of maternal, newborn and child health services in South Asia.
Experience/Employment:
Will has over ten years of experience in global public health focused on providing technical support to maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS and malaria programs in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. He also has experience in program design, program evaluation, and grant writing. In addition to managing his own consulting firm, Story Consulting, Will is a Fellow with the Center for Design and Research in Sustainability (CEDARS) where he focuses on how global agendas and national policies come to bear on community systems and sustainable health service delivery. Will received his BA in Molecular and Cell Biology from the Northwestern University and his MPH in International Health/Epidemiology and Health Behavior/Health Education from the University of Michigan. He currently lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan where he is pursuing his doctorate in medical sociology and global health policy at the University of Michigan.
